Events & Activities

We play chess on Saturdays 10am – 1pm

Below are brief descriptions of our activities. Make sure to check our calendar for what to expect in coming weeks.

Casual Chess

Whether you’re new to chess or very experienced, this is the best way to get going with chess. Come by at any time during our Saturday hours and stay for as long as you want.

There is no membership fee, no age limit, & no experience necessary. Come by just to watch! No pressure. Feel free to socialize, eat, drink, and, of course, play chess!

We have a wide variety of skill levels. If you’re brand new, any of our regulars and volunteers will happily sit at a board with you and play an educational game. For the more experienced, we have plenty of members ready to give you a challenge. There is always someone ready and willing to play.

We have many boards set up, coffee, donuts, and there’s often a live professional chess event playing on TV. Bring a friend!

Unrated Exhibition Tournaments

Exhibition tournaments are tournaments with no registration fees, USCF membership requirement, or stress!

These matches are great for getting started, or back into, tournaments! Players can test the waters, or try new ideas, all while gaining experience minus the tension of rated competition. Anyone is welcome.

All unrated tournaments are free. We provide sets, clocks, pencils and notation score sheets just like rated tournaments. If you’re curious, come try it out! We get lots of positive feedback about these events. Find the next one on the calendar and register online!

USCF Rated Tournaments

Our favorite thing to do is host official USCF rated tournaments! They are operated by our USCF certified tournament directors in affiliation with Rockland County Chess Club in Nyack, NY. All events are open to all skill levels unless otherwise noted.

USCF membership is required and registration fees are also required. These fees help cover the cost of reporting games for rating, maintaining our equipment, and providing prizes! Check out our tournament guidelines for some FAQ about how tournaments work specifically at Piermont Chess and check the calendar for upcoming events and register online.
