These is what we offer at Piermont Chess:
Casual Chess
Whether you’re a seasoned competitor or a curious beginner, Piermont Chess is a great place to play – clock or no clock! We host a wide variety of players on Saturdays from 10-2. Come by at any time and stay for as long as you want.
There is no membership fee, no age limit, & no experience necessary.
We provide all the chess equipment (you can bring your own, of course), water, & coffee, and there are usually donuts and a chess event on TV. Bring a friend!
Unrated Tournaments
Unrated tournaments are tournaments that follow USCF rules but are not rated by USCF, and there is no registration fee or USCF membership requirement.
These matches are free and open to everyone, though geared toward beginners, and are very popular and a great way to enjoy the experience of competitive chess without the anxiety of rated competition.
We provide sets, clocks, pencils and notation score sheets just like we do for rated tournaments.
If you’re curious, come try it out! We get lots of positive feedback. Check the calendar for the next one and sign up online!
USCF Rated Tournaments
Our favorite thing to do is host official USCF rated tournaments operated by our volunteer Tournament Directors! All events are open to all skill levels unless otherwise noted. All TD’s are USCF certified and trained in SafeSport practices as required by USCF.
An active USCF membership is required for participation, and there are modest entry fees for rated play. These fees cover the cost of ratings reports, equipment, food, and of course-prizes! See our tournament guidelines for some FAQ about how tournaments work specifically at Piermont Chess and check the calendar for upcoming events and register online.
Lessons
Director or Piermont Chess, Billy Zifchak, offers in-person lessons for beginner and novice (0~800 elo) during casual chess.
