Recap

As one may or may not know, the seasons exist because of Demeter, the goddess of agriculture, harvest, fertility, and sacred law. Her daughter, Persephone, was abducted by Hades and crowned Queen of the Underworld.

Demeter was furious because she had denied his previous request to take Persephone, and so she vowed the Earth would support no life until her daughter was with her again. Zeus struck a compromise with Hades and Demeter where Persephone’s time would be split 50/50. Spring is when Demeter allows life to flourish again upon Persephone’s ascent from hell.

Long story short, our winter classical event was postponed and we moved it to March aka the “Ascent of Persephone” (in the northern hemisphere)! And the fickle weather has illustrated this cusp of Winter and Spring perfectly.

This event is our bi-annual classical chess event because we spoil ourselves with blitz and rapid games. It’s important for our players to remember how to take notation and take a deep think once in a while, especially if they intend to play at other clubs. Because the games are long we stretch it over two weeks.

We played two games of G/60d10 on March 7th and two more on March 14th. There were 6 players in the U1200 section and and 8 in the Open section.

It was a great time as usual with some great games to look over below.
