What is Piermont Chess Club?<\/h5>\n \n\n \n

Piermont Chess Club is a fantastic place to play chess! It started as a handful of chess enthusiasts, and has grown significantly, charging itself with the ultimate goal of reinventing the concept of the local chess club and becoming\n a center for chess in the Tri-State area like the Marshall Chess Club is for NYC.<\/p>\n \n\n \n

We pride ourselves on our friendly and encouraging atmosphere for all men, women, teens & children, and offering activities other clubs in the area are unable or unwilling to provide. It’s a “no pretension zone” in a bright, clean\n and relaxing space, where everyone from beginner to expert can come and play chess and socialize. <\/p>\n \n\n \n

Who can attend?<\/em><\/h5>\n \n\n \n

Anyone. All ages<\/strong>. All skill levels<\/strong>. We have a very diverse community. True, it’s mostly adults (and was created to provide a different kind of chess club for adults), but many children and teens also\n attend and report a very good experience. The space is lively, and the goal is fun and learning through community and social interaction. <\/p>\n \n\n \n

We love beginners and experts alike, and everyone is encouraged, if not obligated to play with everyone else. You can be guaranteed good sportsmanship and respect. <\/p>\n \n\n \n

In fact, all directors are certified by US Chess to run tournaments, and have also received certification in<\/strong>\n SafeSport<\/strong><\/a>: anti-harassment\/bullying training as required by US Chess.<\/p>\n \n\n \n

When, and where, do you meet?<\/em><\/h5>\n \n\n \n

We meet Saturdays <\/strong>at\n The Piermont Community Center<\/a> located at\n
204 Hudson Terrace, Piermont, NY 10968
<\/em>We start at 10am<\/strong> and play until 2pm<\/strong>. Come by at ANY time and stay as long as you want.<\/p>\n \n\n \n

What do you do?<\/em><\/h5>\n \n\n \n

We play chess! When we host casual games, you can play any way you want. Do you like fast games? Play blitz with a clock. Like to take your time? Ditch the clock and dig deep. Want to learn? Play an analytical game and discuss variations\n with your opponent. Need a break? Just watch! We also host USCF tournaments!<\/p>\n \n\n \n

The only expectation is you’ll show respect to everyone at all times. We know chess can be very competitive, but we do not believe that negates kindness and consideration. Please, allow take-backs & don’t mock mistakes. Minimize\n the trash talk. Be a good loser and a good winner. Play intently, but remember it’s just a game. Teach those with less experience and learn from those with more. We’re all here to improve and have a good time. (If you can’t handle\n this, you’ll be asked to leave. Do I need to bring anything?<\/em><\/h5>\n \n\n \n

We provide everything. You may bring anything you want including your own equipment for casual games & tournaments, but it is not necessary. <\/p>\n \n\n \n

You may also bring your own food and drinks. Many people bring treats and snacks for all to share. We provide water and coffee.<\/p>\n \n\n \n

What we really need are you<\/strong> and your friends!<\/strong><\/p>\n \n\n \n

Is there any cost?<\/em><\/h5>\n \n\n \n

The chess club is FREE for <\/strong>casual play. We do welcome\n donations<\/a>.<\/p>\n \n\n \n

USCF Rated Tournaments<\/em><\/strong> do require registration fees to cover costs and prizes.<\/p>\n \n\n \n

We can’t thank the PAL Piermont Community Center and the village of Piermont enough for providing such an exceptional space.<\/p>\n \n\n \n

NOTE: The village of Piermont requires regular <\/strong>visitors to register with the community center for access to the building for insurance and liability reasons, but there is still no cost. <\/em> Guests and occasional visitors do not need to register.<\/em><\/p>\n \n\n \n
